Mirrorland

Mirrorland serves as EarthGang's major-label debut under Dreamville/Interscope, marking a pivotal moment where their underground psychedelic sensibilities met high-budget production. Recorded over several years, the album was heavily influenced by the duo's desire to create a sonic 'Mirrorland' - a fictionalized, surreal version of their hometown, Atlanta. The project features a diverse production roster including DJ Dahi and J. Cole, resulting in a sound that Pitchfork described as 'bulbous funk' and a 'vivid ode to Southern black culture.' Unlike their earlier, more stripped-back EPs, Mirrorland is a maximalist statement, incorporating elements of blues, gospel, and R&B into a trap framework. It is widely considered their most cohesive work, synthesizing their eccentricities into a narrative that explores black identity, success, and the duality of the Southern experience. The album's commercial debut at number 40 on the Billboard 200 solidified EarthGang as leaders of the 'New South' movement.
