Mobility

Released in 1990 on Instinct Records, 'Mobility' serves as the debut EP for Richard Melville Hall, better known as Moby. This four-track release is a crucial artifact of the early 90s electronic scene, showcasing a version of Moby that was deeply embedded in the techno and house movements of New York City. Unlike the sample-heavy downtempo of 'Play' or the ambient washes of 'Wait for Me', 'Mobility' is characterized by its driving tempos and club-oriented structures. The title track features the early use of piano melodies - a hallmark that would define his career - set against a backdrop of aggressive, rave-ready percussion. The EP reflects the transition from the 80s synth-pop influence into the harder, more abstract sounds of the burgeoning rave culture.
