Moon Safari

Released in early 1998, Moon Safari was the debut full-length from French duo Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, and it remains the cornerstone of the 'French Touch' movement's softer side. While their contemporaries like Daft Punk were focusing on house and disco, Air looked toward 1970s film scores (Ennio Morricone), space-age pop, and the smooth arrangements of Burt Bacharach. The album was recorded using a vast array of vintage hardware, which gives it its signature analog warmth. It was a massive critical and commercial success, particularly in the UK, where it redefined the 'lounge' and 'chillout' genres for a new generation. The inclusion of singer-songwriter Beth Hirsch on tracks like 'All I Need' provided a crucial bridge between the electronic and indie-folk worlds.
