My Point of View

Released in 1963, My Point of View is Herbie Hancock's second leader date for Blue Note Records. It is a significant expansion from his debut, moving from a quintet to a septet featuring a formidable lineup including a very young Tony Williams on drums and the avant-leaning Grachan Moncur III on trombone. The album is stylistically diverse, ranging from the 'soul-jazz' hit potential of 'Blind Man, Blind Man' to the more harmonically advanced and moody 'King Cobra.' This record serves as a crucial link in Hancock's evolution, showcasing his ability to compose for larger ensembles while maintaining the rhythmic drive of hard bop.
