Native Invader

Released in 2017, Native Invader marks Tori Amos’s fifteenth studio outing and serves as a powerful synthesis of her environmental concerns and personal grief. Following a period of personal upheaval - including her mother’s stroke and the shifting American political climate - Amos turned to the 'Muses' and the concept of nature as a healer. Sonically, the album moves away from the more stripped-back classical leanings of Night of Hunters, reintroducing the electronic textures and full-band arrangements reminiscent of her late-90s work like From the Choirgirl Hotel, though with a more mature, atmospheric polish. Recorded at her Martian Engineering studios in Cornwall, the album features frequent collaborator Mark Edwards and her daughter Natashya Hawley on vocals for 'Up the Creek.' It stands as one of her most critically well-received late-career albums, praised for its lyrical depth and the way it mirrors the complexity of the natural world in its production.
