New American Gospel

Released in 2000, New American Gospel marks the definitive transition of the band from their 'Burn the Priest' origins into the Lamb of God era. It is the first album to feature Willie Adler on guitar, whose interplay with Mark Morton established the band's signature dual-guitar rhythmic style. Produced under significant time and budget constraints, the album's 'lo-fi' aesthetic is often attributed to the band's heavy drinking during the sessions, resulting in a sound that is significantly rawer than 2003's 'As the Palaces Burn'. Critics from NME and Revolver have frequently cited it as a landmark of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, noting its successful fusion of Slayer-esque thrash speed with Pantera-inspired groove. The track 'Black Label' remains a staple of their live sets, famous for inciting massive 'wall of death' mosh pits.
