Plugged

Released in December 2010, Plugged is the debut full-length album from the Greek producer Hi Profile (Tasos Antoniou). At a time when the progressive psytrance genre was arguably suffering from a surplus of 'recycled ideas,' this album was positioned as a leap forward in production quality and melodic complexity. Recorded with an emphasis on digital clarity and sub-bass impact, the album successfully bridged the gap between the 'old school' psychedelic foundations and the emerging, more polished 'progressive' sound that would dominate festivals in the 2010s. The record is notable for its 'hybrid' nature, occasionally dipping into electro-house textures (as heard on 'Unique') while maintaining the 135-140 BPM pulse of trance. Critically, it was praised for its 'poetic' approach to synthesis, particularly on the closing track 'Become the Sky,' which remains a signature example of the artist's ability to blend cinematic atmosphere with dancefloor utility.
