Released in 2009, Psychic Chasms is the debut album from Alan Palomo's Neon Indian project and stands as a cornerstone of the chillwave movement. Recorded primarily using cheap analog gear and a laptop, the album's signature sound is defined by its 'warped' quality - intentional pitch fluctuations and heavy tape saturation that mimic the degradation of old VHS tapes. This aesthetic, often termed 'hypnagogic pop,' sought to evoke the collective memory of 1980s pop culture through a distorted, dreamlike lens.
