Quiet Is the New Loud

Released in early 2001, Quiet Is the New Loud served as the definitive statement for the 'New Acoustic Movement.' Recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool with producer Ken Nelson (who had recently finished Coldplay's Parachutes), the album captured Kings of Convenience at their most skeletal. While the duo would later experiment with bossa nova rhythms and more expansive arrangements, this debut remains their most pure distillation of the 'two guitars, two voices' ethos. The record's title became a cultural shorthand for a specific brand of polite, introspective indie folk that prioritized nuance over volume.
