Released in 2024, Ritual represents the culmination of Jon Hopkins' shift from the 'techno-meditation' of Singularity toward the pure ceremonial ambient explored in Music for Psychedelic Therapy. Structured as a single continuous piece divided into eight parts, the album was inspired by a 2022 performance at the Southbank Centre. Sonically, it utilizes the 'Berlin School' of electronic music - characterized by hypnotic, evolving sequences - but filters it through Hopkins' signature modern classical sensibility. The album features contributions from Vylana, 7Rays, and Ishq, adding a human, vocal element to the modular synth foundations. Critics have noted its ability to balance intense, almost overwhelming sonic density with moments of profound stillness.
