Silhouettes

Released in 2008, Silhouettes is widely considered the magnum opus of the Dutch band Textures and a pivotal record in the development of the djent and modern progressive metal movements. Following the experimental Drawing Circles, this album refined the band's formula, integrating Richard Rietdijk's synthesizers more deeply into the rhythmic fabric of the songs. It marks the final appearance of vocalist Eric Kalsbeek, whose ability to pivot between feral screams and emotive, powerful cleans became a benchmark for the genre. The album is characterized by Stef Broks' innovative drumming, which utilizes complex polyrhythms not just for technical display, but as a primary melodic driver. Critically, it was lauded for its ability to bridge the gap between the technicality of Meshuggah and the melodic sensibilities of Devin Townsend, cementing Textures' legacy as pioneers of the European metal scene.
