Released in 2001, Simple Things served as the debut for Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, two former engineering assistants who had worked with artists like Nigel Godrich and Pet Shop Boys. This technical background is evident in the album's immaculate production, which favored vintage gear and live instrumentation over the digital presets common in early 2000s electronic music. The album became a sleeper hit, eventually earning a Mercury Prize nomination and defining the 'lounge' or 'chillout' aesthetic of the decade. It is particularly notable for introducing the world to Sia Furler, whose work here on 'Destiny' and 'Distractions' predates her global pop stardom by over a decade.
