Songs From The Capeman

Released in 1997, 'Songs from The Capeman' is Paul Simon's ninth studio album and serves as a studio interpretation of his ill-fated Broadway musical. Collaborating with Nobel Prize-winning poet Derek Walcott, Simon crafted a narrative based on the life of Salvador Agron, a Puerto Rican gang member in 1950s New York. Musically, the album is a radical departure from the worldbeat-pop of 'Graceland' and 'The Rhythm of the Saints,' diving deep into the specific sounds of Simon's youth: doo-wop, early rock 'n' roll, and the Latin rhythms of the Nuyorican community.
