Released in 2018, Stereo is the debut EP from Omar Apollo and serves as the definitive blueprint for his 'bilingual soul' sound. Recorded largely in a DIY fashion, the project catapulted Apollo from a SoundCloud curiosity to a major indie force. Sonically, the EP is a bridge between the guitar-driven indie pop of the late 2010s and the neo-soul traditions of D'Angelo or Maxwell. The track 'Ugotme' became a breakout hit, showcasing his ability to blend a minimalist drum machine beat with lush, jazz-influenced guitar work.
