Released in late 2020, Stop Stealing the Covers! is the debut full-length from Edith Whiskers, an alias for British singer-songwriter Tom Rosenthal. The project gained massive traction on TikTok, particularly through the cover of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' 'Home,' which became a definitive soundtrack for the platform's 'wholesome' and 'cottagecore' niches. The album consists entirely of covers, ranging from classic rock (The Beatles) to 90s dance (Eiffel 65) and R&B (Destiny's Child). Sonically, the record is defined by its extreme minimalism: Rosenthal utilizes a 'felt piano' - where a layer of felt is placed between the hammers and strings - to create a muted, percussive tone. This, paired with his signature breathy, hushed vocal delivery, creates a 'slowed and reverbed' aesthetic that bypasses digital effects in favor of physical intimacy.
