Summer's Stellar Gaze

Summer's Stellar Gaze is the debut EP from Burlington, Ontario's Silverstein, released in 2000. While the band would later become synonymous with the polished, high-production sound of Victory Records-era post-hardcore, this early release is a stark departure in terms of fidelity. Recorded with a limited budget and a raw approach, the EP showcases a band heavily influenced by the first wave of screamo and the more aggressive side of the emo-core movement. The songwriting already displays Shane Told's knack for balancing melody with visceral aggression, but the execution here is far more abrasive than on subsequent albums like When Broken Is Easily Fixed.
