Sunset in the Blue is Melody Gardot’s fifth studio album, representing a return to her jazz roots while expanding her sonic palette with lush orchestral arrangements. Released in 2020, the album is notable for its ambitious recording process during global lockdowns. A centerpiece of the project is 'From Paris with Love', which features a 'global orchestra' of unemployed musicians who recorded their parts remotely from their homes across the world. This collaborative spirit defines the record, which blends original compositions with carefully selected standards like 'I Fall in Love Too Easily'. Produced by Larry Klein, the album features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and arrangements by Vince Mendoza. Sonically, it leans heavily into Bossa Nova rhythms and the 'cool jazz' aesthetic, characterized by Gardot's signature breathy vocals and intimate delivery.
