Surrender

Released in July 1971, Surrender is the third solo studio album by Diana Ross and represents a pivotal reunion with the songwriting and production duo Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Following the experimental 'Everything Is Everything,' this album returned Ross to the sophisticated soul-pop formula that defined her debut, but with a significantly darker and more mature emotional palette. The album is notable for its covers, including a dramatic reimagining of the Four Tops' 'Reach Out, I'll Be There,' which Ross transforms into a slow-burning, gospel-tinged epic.
