Taranta Project

Released in 2015, Taranta Project represents Ludovico Einaudi's most significant stylistic departure. Serving as the culmination of his tenure as the director of the Notte della Taranta festival in Salento, the album is a collaborative reimagining of traditional Salentine 'pizzica' music. Einaudi integrates his minimalist piano structures with a diverse array of global influences, including West African kora, Turkish electronics, and local Italian choral traditions. Unlike the solitary, introspective nature of 'In a Time Lapse' or 'Elements,' this project is an ensemble-driven exploration of rhythm as a healing force. Critics noted the album's ability to modernize folk traditions without stripping them of their grit or cultural specificity. It stands as a rare example of a contemporary classical artist successfully pivoting into the world music arena, trading delicate arpeggios for the 'tarantella's' frenetic, therapeutic energy.
