Tempest

Released in 2012, Tempest stands as one of the most critically acclaimed works of Bob Dylan's later career. Produced by Dylan under his Jack Frost pseudonym, the album was recorded at Groove Masters Studios and features his long-standing touring band supplemented by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos. Sonically, the album is a departure from the cleaner, more traditional swing of 'Modern Times', opting instead for a grittier, more aggressive blues-rock sound. The lyrical content is notably dark, featuring a high body count and themes of revenge, mortality, and historical tragedy. The centerpiece is the 14-minute title track, a waltzing epic about the sinking of the Titanic. Critics from Rolling Stone and Mojo hailed it as a late-career masterpiece, noting the incredible texture of Dylan's aging voice.
