The Cage EP

Released in 2022, The Cage EP serves as a harder-edged follow-up to 2021's The Roadside. While its predecessor explored more reflective and acoustic territories, The Cage is a deliberate return to the high-energy rock and roll that defined Billy Idol's career. Produced by Tommy English and Zakk Cervini, the EP benefits from a contemporary 'pop-punk' production sheen that makes the guitars hit with modern impact without sacrificing the artist's classic identity. The title track was largely inspired by the collective experience of the COVID-19 lockdowns, translating global frustration into a personal anthem of liberation. Longtime collaborator Steve Stevens is central to the sound here, providing the signature 'ray gun' guitar effects and heavy riffs that have defined the Idol sound since the early 80s. Critics noted the EP's surprising vitality, praising Idol's ability to maintain his 'punk Elvis' persona while adapting to modern production standards.
