The Cosmic Game

Released in 2005, The Cosmic Game represents Thievery Corporation's most ambitious attempt to bridge the gap between their lounge-dub roots and the wider world of alternative rock. Rob Garza and Eric Hilton expanded their collaborative circle significantly for this release, bringing in iconic voices like Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction), and David Byrne (Talking Heads). This shift moved the project away from the strictly 'chillout' category and into a more psychedelic, song-oriented space. The album is notable for its heavy use of Indian instrumentation, particularly the sitar, which provides a spiritual counterpoint to the album's overt political themes and anti-war sentiment.
