The Greatest

Recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, The Greatest is Cat Power's seventh studio album and serves as a major stylistic pivot. Moving away from the minimalist, often improvisational indie-folk of her earlier career, Chan Marshall recruited the 'Memphis Rhythm Band' - including guitarist Teenie Hodges and bassist Leroy Hodges - to infuse her songwriting with classic soul and R&B textures. This collaboration resulted in her most commercially successful and critically lauded work to date. Unlike her previous albums, which relied heavily on covers, this record consists entirely of original material, showcasing a newfound confidence in her narrative songwriting.
