The Harmony Codex

Released on September 29, 2023, through Virgin Records, The Harmony Codex is the seventh studio album by British multi-instrumentalist and producer Steven Wilson. Moving away from the synth-pop focus of his previous record, The Future Bites, this album represents a return to more complex, progressive, and experimental structures, which Wilson described as a continuous 65-minute musical journey or 'cinema for the ears.'

Wilson recorded the album primarily in his home studio, located in a garage of a North London townhouse. Despite the intimate recording environment, the album features a global cast of remote collaborators, including long-time keyboardist Adam Holzman, drummer Craig Blundell, vocalist Ninet Tayeb, Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto, and Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino. This collaborative approach allowed Wilson to piece together a highly diverse tracklist where almost every song explores a different musical style, from the industrial-tinged electronic rhythms of 'Inclination' to the sprawling, ten-minute progressive fusion epic 'Impossible Tightrope.' The album stands as a central pillar in Wilson's 2020s catalog, showcasing his unparalleled reputation for high-fidelity production and spatial audio design.
