The Make Yourself at Home EP

Released in late 2003, The Make Yourself at Home EP represents a significant aesthetic pivot for The Starting Line. Following the massive success of their debut full-length, 'Say It Like You Mean It', the band opted for a lo-fi, acoustic approach rather than a high-production follow-up. The recording process was famously fragmented, taking place in producer Bob Jones' bedroom, Kenny Vasoli's basement, and even the back of a tour bus. This DIY ethos resulted in a dry, intimate sound that highlights Vasoli's distinctive vocal delivery. The EP features five original tracks and an acoustic reimagining of their hit 'The Best of Me', which has since become a fan favorite version. It stands as a landmark release for Drive-Thru Records, showcasing the label's ability to market the more sensitive, singer-songwriter leanings of the pop-punk scene. Critically, it is viewed as a successful experiment in vulnerability that paved the way for the band's later sonic explorations.
