The Pursuit

Released in 2009, The Pursuit represents Jamie Cullum's most significant stylistic expansion, recorded partly in Los Angeles with producer Greg Wells. Following the massive success of Twentysomething, Cullum used this project to bridge his jazz roots with his interests in house music, alt-rock, and cinematic scores. The album is notable for its diverse tracklist, featuring everything from a Sondheim cover to a reimagined Rihanna hit. Critics from AllMusic and BBC Music praised the record for its 'eclectic energy' and Cullum's ability to maintain his identity while pivoting between genres. It marks a transition from the 'jazz-pop' label toward a more 'alternative-jazz' territory, utilizing more electronic elements and aggressive production than his previous efforts.
