The Undercover Sessions

Released in 2006, The Undercover Sessions is a five-track EP that serves as a transitional release for Ill Niño. It features two original tracks, Arrastra and Reservation for Two, alongside three ambitious covers. The EP is notable for its exploration of the band's diverse influences, ranging from the art-rock of Peter Gabriel to the grunge of Nirvana and the experimental metal of Faith No More. Sonically, it maintains the band's signature 'Latin metal' sound, characterized by Cristian Machado's bilingual vocals and Dave Chavarri's intricate, percussion-heavy drumming. The production is typical of the era: loud, compressed, and punchy, ensuring the auxiliary percussion cuts through the thick wall of distorted guitars. While often viewed as a stop-gap release, it remains a fan favorite for its unique reinterpretations and the strength of its original compositions.
