Released in late 2022, Thin Ice on the Cake serves as a refined distillation of Cautious Clay's signature 'chamber-soul' aesthetic. Following his debut full-length, this EP sees Joshua Karpeh (the man behind the moniker) tightening his songwriting structures while expanding his instrumental palette. The project is notable for its heavy reliance on woodwinds, specifically flute and saxophone, which are treated with the same melodic importance as the lead vocals.
