Timeless

Released in early 2006, Timeless serves as the debut full-length statement from UVERworld, following the massive success of their single 'D-tecnoLife'. The album is a quintessential example of the 'mixture rock' movement in Japan, which sought to dissolve the boundaries between rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. Recording took place during a pivotal shift in the J-rock scene where anime tie-ins were becoming the primary vehicle for rock bands to reach mainstream audiences; however, Timeless proves to be more than just a collection of themes. It established the band's unique instrumentation, specifically the use of a dedicated 'manipulator' for electronic elements and the integration of saxophone into a hard rock framework. The involvement of David Horvath for the cover art further emphasized the band's desire to merge Japanese rock with global street-culture aesthetics. Critically, it is viewed as the blueprint for the band's career, showcasing the technical proficiency and genre-fluidity that would eventually make them stadium mainstays.
