Released in 2009, Townes is Steve Earle's 13th studio album and a dedicated tribute to his mentor, Townes Van Zandt. Following Van Zandt's death in 1997, Earle famously claimed he would stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table and say Townes was the better songwriter.
