Released in August 2024, Transmissions represents a return to a more primitive, organic recording process for Amos Lee. Eschewing the polished studio sheen of some of his mid-career efforts, Lee took his band to a woodshed in upstate New York to record live to tape. This environment is audible in the final product, which features longer-than-average song durations and a spacious, atmospheric production style. The album explores themes of aging, loss, and the persistence of human connection, often using nature as a metaphorical backdrop.
