Released in 1986, Turbo represents Judas Priest's most significant stylistic pivot of the decade. Recorded at the legendary Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas, the album saw the band experimenting with Roland G-707 guitar synthesizers, a move that fundamentally altered their sonic DNA from raw power to high-tech sheen. Originally conceived as a double album titled 'Twin Turbos,' the project was eventually scaled back to a single disc focusing on more commercial, accessible material. This shift was partly influenced by the burgeoning glam metal scene in Los Angeles and the band's desire to conquer American radio. Despite initial fan backlash for its 'soft' sound, the album was a commercial success, achieving Platinum status. It also stands as a historical document of the band's fight against censorship, with 'Parental Guidance' written in response to the PMRC's 'Filthy Fifteen' list.
