Ufabulum

Released in 2012 on Warp Records, Ufabulum represents a significant pivot for Tom Jenkinson, better known as Squarepusher. After years of integrating live bass guitar and acoustic drumming into his electronic compositions, Jenkinson intentionally stripped away all organic instrumentation for this project. The album was conceived alongside a massive LED-based live show, where Jenkinson performed in a custom-designed helmet that mirrored the visual data of the music. Sonically, the album draws from the aggressive palettes of darkcore, acid techno, and contemporary glitch, but elevates them through Jenkinson's signature complex harmonic language. Critics noted its 'purely electronic' nature as a return to his 90s roots but with 210s production fidelity. It stands as one of his most cohesive and sonically consistent works, trading the improvisational sprawl of his fusion period for a tight, aggressive, and highly polished digital aesthetic.
