Volume 1, originally titled Camp Kill Yourself, is the 1999 debut that introduced CKY's signature 'octave-pedal' sound to the world. Recorded primarily at The Ground Hog Studios in Pennsylvania, the album was a DIY labor of love funded largely by vocalist Deron Miller's father and produced on a meager budget by Chad I Ginsburg. The record serves as a bridge between the band's origins as a duo (Oil) and their emergence as a full unit. Sonically, it is defined by Ginsburg's engineering, which emphasized a thick, buzzy guitar frequency that became the band's sonic fingerprint. The album gained massive underground traction through its association with Bam Margera's CKY skate videos and the early 'Jackass' era, cementing its status as a cultural touchstone for the turn-of-the-century alternative scene. Despite mixed initial reviews from mainstream critics who found its stylistic shifts jarring, it remains a fan favorite for its raw energy and the inclusion of the iconic '96 Quite Bitter Beings'.
