Weed Garden

Released on August 31, 2018, through Sub Pop, Weed Garden is a six-track EP by Sam Beam under his Iron & Wine moniker. The material on this release consists of songs written during the sessions for his acclaimed 2017 full-length album, Beast Epic, but completed and recorded later. This origin explains the EP's sonic cohesion with Beast Epic, sharing its warm, analog production style, dry vocal tracking, and organic, hand-played instrumentation. Notably, the EP features the fan-favorite track 'Waves of Galveston', a song Beam had performed live for years but had never officially recorded in a studio setting. Musically, the EP balances the sparse, acoustic-driven folk of Beam's early career with the sophisticated, chamber-folk textures of his mid-career work, resulting in a release that feels both nostalgic and highly polished.
