Whip It On

Whip It On is the debut EP by Danish duo The Raveonettes, a release that immediately established their 'Dogme 95' style approach to rock music. The duo famously imposed strict recording constraints: all songs had to be in B-flat minor, no song could exceed three minutes, and only three chords were permitted per track. This conceptual rigidity resulted in a remarkably focused sonic identity that blends the 1960s 'girl group' melodies of The Ronettes with the abrasive, feedback-laden textures of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Recorded primarily by Sune Rose Wagner, the EP's production is characterized by heavy tape saturation and a 'wall of sound' that feels both vintage and futuristic.
