Winter Storm

Winter Storm is the ninth studio album by Finnish folk metal veterans Ensiferum, released in 2024. Unlike some of their more eclectic previous efforts, this record is a focused concept piece based on an unpublished fantasy story by bassist Sami Hinkka. Sonically, it represents a synthesis of their early melodic death metal roots with the more symphonic and power metal-leaning elements introduced in the 2010s. The album features a notable guest appearance by Madeleine Liljestam (Eleine), adding a gothic melodic dimension to the track 'Scars in My Heart'. Produced with a high-fidelity, maximalist approach, the record emphasizes the 'Vigilante' theme through recurring melodic motifs and massive gang vocals. It stands as a testament to the band's longevity, maintaining their position as leaders of the genre while refining their storytelling capabilities through more complex song structures like the centerpiece 'From Order to Chaos'.
