Young Mountain

Young Mountain is the 2005 debut EP by Texas-based instrumentalists This Will Destroy You. Originally intended as a demo to be sold at local shows, the recording's unexpected popularity led to a wider release on Magic Bullet Records in 2006. Sonically, it represents a more melodic and 'bright' version of post-rock compared to the band's later, darker work like 'Tunnel Blanket'. The album is characterized by its use of heavy reverb, delay pedals, and dramatic crescendos. Despite its short six-track runtime, it became a cornerstone of the mid-2000s post-rock scene, frequently cited alongside giants like Explosions in the Sky. Its tracks have been widely licensed for film and television, cementing the band's reputation for creating 'cinematic' music. The recording captures a band at their most earnest, before they moved toward more experimental and drone-influenced textures.
