Ziggurats

Ziggurats is a 2021 multi-format project by Mike Shinoda, released as a 'generative NFT' collection where thousands of unique audio-visual combinations were minted. This specific four-track EP represents the core musical backbone of that experiment. Sonically, it marks a significant departure from the melodic, emotionally heavy alternative pop of Post Traumatic (2018). Here, Shinoda leans heavily into his identity as a rapper and producer, channeling the influence of 90s underground hip-hop through a modern, glitch-heavy lens. The tracks are exceptionally brief, functioning more like a continuous suite or a mixtape than a traditional EP. Lyrically, Shinoda explores themes of technology, creative burnout, and the cyclical nature of culture, delivered with a technical precision that recalls his early work with Fort Minor. It is a lean, aggressive, and highly experimental entry in his solo discography that prioritizes flow and texture over traditional song structure.
