'Zu schön, um wahr zu sein!' is the debut EP from Die Ärzte, released in 1983. Recorded shortly after the band's formation from the ashes of Soilent Grün, this four-track release established the 'Die Ärzte' template: high-speed punk rock infused with 1950s-style vocal harmonies and a heavy dose of irony. Unlike the darker, more political 'Deutschpunk' of the era, this EP leaned into 'Fun-Punk,' focusing on satirical takes on romance and youth culture. The production is characteristic of early 80s independent Berlin labels, featuring a raw, mid-heavy sound and minimal overdubbing. It remains a foundational document of the Neue Deutsche Welle transition into punk, showcasing Farin Urlaub and Bela B's early songwriting chemistry. The EP is highly sought after by collectors, particularly the original 7-inch pressings, and serves as the definitive starting point for one of Germany's most successful musical legacies.
