A Man Called Adam

A Man Called Adam (AMCA), consisting of Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones, are foundational figures in the UK's electronic and Balearic scenes. Emerging from the late-80s acid jazz movement, they were instrumental in bridging the gap between jazz-influenced live instrumentation and the burgeoning house music culture.

Their early work on the Acid Jazz label and their seminal 1990 single 'Barefoot in the Head' established them as pioneers of a sophisticated, song-oriented electronic sound. The departure of early member Paul Daley (who went on to form Leftfield) marked a shift toward the duo's more atmospheric, downtempo identity. Throughout the 1990s, they became synonymous with the 'Chill Out' movement, particularly through their association with Ibiza's Café del Mar scene. Their sound identity is defined by Rodgers' breathy vocal delivery, jazz-inflected chord progressions, and a production aesthetic that favors analog warmth over digital harshness.
