Warm, psychedelic-tinged rock that feels like a sunset over a suburban cul-de-sac. Emo's earnest heart meeting the lush textures of vintage pop.
A Will Away sounds like the precise moment the sun dips below the horizon, casting long, orange shadows over a neighborhood you know by heart. It is music built on the bones of pop-punk and emo, but it has been softened and expanded by a love for 80s pop production and a touch of psychedelic drift. The guitars don't just crunch; they chime, interlock, and swirl, creating a bed of sound that feels both nostalgic and strangely expansive.
What sets them apart is their refusal to stay in the 'sad boy' lane. While their lyrics grapple with heavy existential questions and the friction of growing up, the music often feels buoyant and sophisticated. They trade the frantic energy of their early DIY days for a mid-tempo confidence, utilizing rich vocal harmonies and thoughtful arrangements that reward close listening. It's 'rock' in a classic sense, but filtered through a modern, introspective lens.
Start with the album 'Here Again' to hear them at their most cohesive. It captures a band transitioning from their punk roots into something much more atmospheric and permanent. It's the perfect soundtrack for long drives where you're doing more thinking than talking, or for those quiet evenings when you're looking for music that feels as complicated as you do.
A Will Away is an American modern rock band formed in 2011 in Naugatuck, Connecticut. The band's original five members all lived within a mile of each other growing up, forming the band while in high school. Their name is a play on words from their shared philosophy, "Where there's a will, there's a way." They are currently signed to Rude Records. Starting off in the DIY music scene a self-described "cookie-cutter pop-punk" band, the band calls their current sound "eighties pop-rock on acid," which Billboard describes as being characterized by "a slew of memorable riffs, conceptual videos, and relatable lyrics that range from the everyday to transcendental." The band self-released a full-length album and two EPs before signing in 2013 with Giant MKT, their first record label. In 2015, they released their breakthrough EP, Bliss, on Quiet Fire Media, which led to the band signing with Triple Crown Records. The label re-released Bliss on October 23, 2015. Their first full-length album on Triple Crown, Here Again, was released March 3, 2017. Their sophomore EP on Triple Crown, Soup, was released November 20, 2019.
