Intro

Listening to Aidan Baker is like watching a landscape slowly dissolve into mist. While his primary tool is the electric guitar, he treats the instrument as a generator of pure texture rather than melody, using loops and heavy processing to create massive, breathing clouds of sound. It is music that feels both heavy and weightless, occupying a space between the grit of industrial noise and the serenity of modern classical music.

What sets Baker apart is his prolific, improvisational approach. His pieces often feel like living organisms, slowly evolving through subtle shifts in feedback and resonance. He brings a flautist's breathy sensibility to the guitar, resulting in drones that have a human, organic pulse even when they are at their most distorted or electronic. It is deconstructive music that somehow feels whole and comforting.

For those new to his massive catalog, 'Green & Cold' is the essential starting point. It perfectly captures his ability to balance melancholic beauty with expansive, immersive drone. It is the kind of record that demands you slow down your heart rate and let the sound wash over you completely.
