Akkord

Akkord is a collaborative project between Manchester-based producers Synkro (Joe McBride) and Indigo (Liam Blackburn), though the project has occasionally hinted at a more collective, anonymous structure. Emerging in the early 2010s, they became a cornerstone of the Houndstooth label's roster.

Their sound identity is a rigorous hybridization of UK hardcore continuum tropes - specifically jungle's breakbeat science and dubstep's sub-bass focus - recontextualized through the lens of minimalist techno and dark ambient. Critically, they are praised for their 'surgical' production style, which avoids the warmth of analog nostalgia in favor of a cold, high-definition digital aesthetic. Their career arc is marked by a series of highly consistent EPs and a seminal self-titled LP that bridged the gap between the club and the gallery.
