Hypnotic sitar melodies dissolving into deep analog synth washes. A bridge between ancient Indian classical traditions and modern European ambient minimalism.

Intro

Al Gromer Khan creates a sound that feels like a bridge between worlds, where the intricate, mathematical beauty of the Indian sitar meets the spacious, drifting textures of German electronic music. It is music that refuses to rush, favoring long, resonant decays and subtle harmonic shifts that reward deep, patient listening. The atmosphere is often thick with a sense of ancient mystery, yet grounded by the warm, tactile hum of analog synthesizers.

What sets him apart is his pedigree. Unlike many Western artists who merely dabble in Eastern sounds, Khan was formally initiated into a prestigious Indian musical dynasty. This deep technical foundation allows him to treat the sitar not just as an exotic texture, but as a living, breathing voice. His production often places the instrument in vast, reverb-drenched spaces, creating a 'future lounge' aesthetic that is both sophisticated and spiritually heavy.

For those new to his work, the best approach is to treat it as a companion for solitude. It is music for the quietest hours of the night when the world feels thin and the mind is most receptive to abstraction. It doesn't demand your attention with hooks; instead, it slowly occupies the room, turning any environment into a temporary sanctuary for reflection.

Al Gromer Khan (born April 8, 1946) is a German sitar player and composer whose music spans the multiple genres of ambient, new age, world and electronica. He is author of 4 novels and author of National-Radio documentaries and features about music for more than 25 years and works as a visual artist.
