Saturated modular synth swells that feel like fading memories. Warm, unstable, and deeply emotional electronic landscapes for quiet reflection.
Alessandro Cortini creates electronic music that feels less like a machine and more like a living, breathing organism. His sound is defined by the unique limitations and expressive power of modular synthesizers, particularly the Buchla. Instead of cold, clinical bleeps, he coaxes out massive, warm swells of sound that drift and decay with a human-like fragility. It is music that occupies the space between industrial grit and classical beauty.
What truly sets him apart is his ability to find profound emotion in repetition and texture. There is a distinct sense of 'unstable pitch' in his work, where notes slightly wobble and fray at the edges, mimicking the way memories distort over time. This analog imperfection makes his drones feel intimate and nostalgic rather than distant or alien. He uses saturation and tape-like degradation to give his compositions a physical, tactile weight.
For those new to his solo work, AVANTI is the essential starting point. It utilizes old family films as a conceptual anchor, resulting in a deeply personal and cinematic experience. If you prefer something more abstract and rhythmic, the Forse series showcases his mastery of the Buchla Music Easel, offering a masterclass in how much feeling can be wrung from a single instrument.
