Formed in 2004 in Montreal, Quebec, Alfa Rococo consists of duo Justine Laberge and David Bussières. They emerged as a central force in the mid-2000s 'nouvelle chanson' movement, blending traditional French-language songwriting with contemporary indie-pop and electronic rock sensibilities.
David Bussières brought significant technical pedigree to the project, having previously played with DobaCaracol and Cirque du Soleil, while Laberge's background in soundtracks provided a cinematic vocal clarity. Their sound is characterized by a high-energy, optimistic aesthetic often referred to as 'chasser le malheur' (chasing away unhappiness), which resonated deeply within the Quebecois music scene.
