Ancst

Ancst is a Berlin-based collective that has become a cornerstone of the modern 'blackened crust' movement since their formation in 2012. They are defined by a staunchly anti-fascist (DIY) hardcore ethic, explicitly distancing themselves from the right-wing tropes often associated with black metal.

Their sound is a sophisticated hybrid: the speed and atmosphere of second-wave black metal fused with the rhythmic structures of crust punk and d-beat. Beyond extreme metal, the project maintains a parallel identity in dark ambient and industrial music, often releasing full-length drone projects that inform the atmospheric depth of their metal output. Critically, they are praised for their prolific work ethic and the seamless integration of melodic hooks into otherwise abrasive structures. They occupy a similar cultural space to bands like Wolfbrigade and Hexis, bridging the gap between the punk squat and the extreme metal festival.
