Intro

Andy Griggs occupies that sweet spot of late-90s and early-2000s country where the grit of the South met the sheen of pop radio. His voice is the main attraction, a rich and slightly weathered baritone that carries a surprising amount of blue-eyed soul. It is music that feels warm and lived-in, like a favorite denim jacket that has seen its share of both Friday nights and Sunday mornings.

What distinguishes Griggs from his contemporaries is the sheer soulfulness of his delivery. While many of his peers leaned into a more nasal or traditional twang, Griggs brought a gospel-inflected intensity to his ballads and a swampy, rhythmic pocket to his up-tempo tracks. There is an earnestness here that avoids being saccharine, grounded by a vocal texture that suggests he has lived the stories he is telling.

Start with his debut, 'You Won't Ever Be Lonely'. The title track is a masterclass in the country power ballad, showcasing his ability to build from a whisper to a roar. From there, explore 'Freedom' to hear how he integrated more rock and soul influences into his signature sound.

Andrew Tyler Griggs (born August 13, 1973) is an American country music artist. He has released three albums for RCA Records Nashville (You Won't Ever Be Lonely, Freedom, and This I Gotta See) and a fourth (The Good Life) for Montage Music Group. He also charted "Grow Young With You", a cut from the soundtrack to the film Where the Heart Is.
