Anhedonia is the solo project of Prague-based electronic musician Vojtěch Smetana, active since 2004. Emerging from the Czech industrial and experimental scenes, the project occupies a unique niche between rhythmic noise, IDM, and dark ambient.
Smetana's work is characterized by a high degree of technical precision, utilizing digital synthesis and granular processing to create soundscapes that feel both vast and claustrophobic. Unlike the black metal or sludge acts sharing the same name, this Anhedonia focuses on the 'inability to feel pleasure' through a lens of technological alienation. The project's discography, particularly 'Destructive Forces' and 'Ontology,' reflects a transition from aggressive industrial beats toward more complex, glitch-oriented compositions. Critically, the project is noted for its consistency in maintaining a 'cold' aesthetic, avoiding the melodic tropes of synth-pop in favor of rhythmic exploration and textural density. It remains a cult fixture for fans of the Ant-Zen and Hymen Records school of industrial electronics.
